Wanderlust Friday {El Camino de Santiago}...

Last night we watched the film made by Martin Sheen and Emilio Esteves about El Camino de Santiago. "The Walk" was a great scenic film chronicling the story of a man who becomes a pilgrim in the Camino de Santiago to honor his son, an adventurer who died suddenly. Now, all me and my hubby can think of is how to do El Camino at some point in our lives. It looks like such a beautiful way to reflect and relax in nature. Read more about the UNESCO sight, it's truly incredible!

Have you ever done it? I would love to hear all about the adventure! Happy Friday. M

Planting Day...

...Is one of my favorite days! Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved to plant flowers once the weather warms up. Β It is a great way to celebrate the arrival of spring and cheers you up for days on end!

Today I worked on two planters for our front porch: (each one has a Β pink geranium, magenta dianthus, a yellow marigold, creeping vinca vine and a hen and chick plant)

Yum - Food Art!

On Etsy, I found a great Parisian artist who watercolors fruit and other delicacies (delicious looking desserts, soups, etc.). Β The images are a combination of a traditional "still life" painting with a modern spin of mixed media. She is a great inspiration for a new way to look at the kitchen and how to incorporate my love of cooking and baking in some new paintings! Β Stay tuned!

Some of my favorite images of her work include the following:

Oh - and a great idea - her work framed nicely would make a great Mother's Day Gift - great kitchen art!

A painting a day for 43 days...Wow!

On Etsy, I randomly stumbled upon a painter who made it her mission prior to her 43rd birthday to create 43 paintings in 43 days. Β What a great way to create affordable artwork for collectors just starting a gallery of their own and for an artist to truly challenge themselves with an achievable but challenging project! Follow Ms. Betsy on Etsy at: http://www.etsy.com/shop/msbetsy?ref=pr_shop_more

She describes the project in the following words:

"A painting every day for 43 days straight, is the challenge I created for myself to commemorate the last 43 days of my 43rd year. And in keeping with the β€œ43” theme, each painting in the series is priced at 43 dollars.

Each piece is an original work of art, not a print or a giclee. It is priced so affordably, nearly anyone can own an original.

I wanted to do something silly that would challenge me to create each and every day and promote artist made work. It was serendipitous that the idea came to me just in time to begin the 43 day countdown till my next birthday."

Here are a couple of my favorites from her Etsy shop:

Handmade Valentines!

The best way to spread a little Valentine's Day love this year (for me) is to make my own Valentines like the good old days (circa 1990). Β I will be sharing this joy with my Art and Spanish classes on Monday at school too to remind the little gremlins that a handmade gift can mean just as much as a purchased one. Check out the latest designs that I whipped up tonight while the hubby played video games :)

Visionary Art Museum, Baltimore MD

If you are looking for a great way to beat the winter blues and need to get out of the house, without being out in the cold (brrr!), head over to the Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, MD. Β Being from "DC" my whole life, my only problem with the Visionary is that you have to pay to enter (the horror!), but it's well worth it for a special Saturday afternoon treat. Β There are two main buildings, an Art Gallery and a Gallery of the Famous Kinetic Sculptures that make their debut on the inner harbor in Baltimore each May. This past Saturday, my buddy Megan and I headed over to the Visionary for an art date and had a great time! Β I might be going back soon too, they have great Arts and Crafts Classes offered in the Museum as well.

Check out more about the Visionary at http://www.avam.org/.

I might have to check out "Shiny Happy Things" in April - http://www.avam.org/news-and-events/events/shiny-happy-things.shtml
