New read - "The Space Between Us" by Thrity Umrigar

The latest book that I am working on is "The Space Between Us".  I am only 1/2 way through, but may already be in love....its a beautiful tale of two women in India from very different sides of the world (caste system). I love reading books that teach a little bit about other cultures and India intrigues me.  This book deals with the issues of the slums in India, the language and culture of the Parsi people, and the human rights issues that Indian women face on a daily basis.

Also, online I found a great Reading Group Guide for the Book at http://www.readinggroupguides.com/guides3/space_between_us1.asp if you would like to share it with your book club.

Find out more about the author at her awesome website - http://www.umrigar.com/space_between.html.

Review about the book:

"Poignant and compelling, evocative and unforgettable, The Space Between Us is an intimate portrait of a distant yet familiar world. Set in modern-day India and witnessed through two compelling and achingly real women, the novel shows how the lives of the rich and the poor are intrinsically connected yet vastly removed from each other, and vividly captures how the bonds of womanhood are pitted against the divisions of class and culture."
