“Why You’re Never Failing as a Mother (or father)” in the Huffington Post…

The recent article entitled “Why You’re Never Failing as a Mother” in the Huffington Post makes me smile.  It’s a great article with good perspective on the overly-critical over-analyzing that define parents of this day and age.

My favorite quote from the article states:

“Your job is to provide your child with food, shelter, encouragement and love, and that doesn’t have to be solely provided by you either — feel free to outsource, because they didn’t just pull that “it takes a village” proverb out of the air.

Mommy and Me classes, homemade lactation cookies and learning Cantonese is all gravy, and if you can throw them in the mix once in a while, good on ya, Lady. I have about 9,000 things I’ve pinned on Pinterest and I think I’ve done four of them, which is fine by me, because those are above and beyond goodies, and not part of my just-scraping-by norm.”

As far as scraping-by, its refreshing to see that this is the norm.  Scraping-by is called “Parenting”.  Simplifying life is the key here and knowing that the bar can be lowered a bit is extremely refreshing.

One group was left out of the article though, the Dads who make it all great.  A special shout out to the awesome Super-Daddies out there who spend their nights on the night shift with the molar-growing 1-year-olds.  Who knew that the Pooh bear blanket and Redskins hog pillow would make such a nice adult bed?

Note: A blog that is great for mocking the overachievers can be found here.  ha-ha!

We parents and grandparents understand! To all the young moms and dads out there…..cherish every sleepless night, teething 1year olds, runny noses and cranky children…..treasure every bathtub playtime, story time and snuggles…..life can change in a blink of an eye. Let the dirt collect in the corners, the dog hair ball up on the rug…..play with your babies, ready them stories, hold them when they are up all night……treasure every moment.
